How to control an oily face for men

How to control an oily face for men

Let’s start with the basics. Oil is natural and present on everyone’s skin. It’s important for keeping the skin lubricated and protecting it from environmental factors. If you’re a guy who needs to tame the shine more often than not, consider it a gift. Men with naturally oily skin tend to have fewer signs of premature aging. Lucky you.

What causes oily skin? It’s linked to several factors including good ole’ genetics, enlarged pores, a diet high in sugar and processed foods, where you live, the time of year, and more.  Since you will most likely not be relocating to reduce your facial oil, here are a few tips to help you with your skin.

  1. Wash your face! That’s right, you need to wash your face in the morning and at night, but that’s it – no more than three times per day. Use warm water – not hot – and give your face a final rinse with cold water to shrink your pores. And avoid face cleansers with harsh chemicals as they can dry out your skin which then produces more oil.
  2. Use serum and moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated. It might seem counterintuitive, but just because you have oily skin, it doesn’t mean your skin is hydrated. Again, if your face is too dry, it will produce more oil.
  3. If your skin becomes oily in the middle of the day while at work, step away and give it a quick splash. Or you can try blotting papers or a paper towel, anything that will soak up the oil.
  4. Drink water! Staying hydrated is one of the most important ways you can keep your skin as healthy as possible. Staying hydrated means your skin will stay hydrated as well.

That’s it! To keep your face shine-free, we recommend using Guy Lively Face Wash, Serum, and Moisturizer. If you find your chest and back are oily as well, try our Charcoal Detox bar soap that contains ingredients that will soak up excess oil and fight bacteria.
